As an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter in our Tilt Train Maintenance Facility team based at Gracemere. You’ll contribute to our proud legacy, and help us build an even brighter, more sustainable future - and that means incredible things for your career.
Our Apprentice Opportunity:
In this apprenticeship you will
- Work alongside experienced Mechanical Fitters and Electricians maintaining and servicing Queensland Rail's iconic Tilt Train fleet.
- Learn to inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical systems and components on rollingstock.
- Assist with scheduled maintenance, overhauls and fault-finding activities to ensure trains operate safely and reliably.
- Use specialised tools, equipment and maintenance procedures in a modern rollingstock maintenance depot environment.
- Develop skills in interpreting technical drawings, manuals and maintenance documentation.
- Participate in safety-focused work practices and contribute to maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
- Gain hands-on experience across a variety of mechanical systems, including braking, suspension, coupling, pneumatic and auxiliary equipment.
- Build practical trade skills while completing a nationally recognised Mechanical Fitter apprenticeship qualification.
As an Apprentice you will need:
- National Driver’s License (Mandatory)
- Excellent communication skills – with ability to establish and develop working relationships
- Be able to work across rosters which includes weekend and night work. This role will require you to work, day, night, and weekend shifts across a 2-week roster. This includes the allowances and penalty rates for weekend and afternoon/night shifts. Overtime is also available
- Have a willingness to travel
- The ability to work in a team environment and follow instructions with a commitment to safety at all times is essential
