The Paediatric Surgical Trainee - Unaccredited Position is available at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (SCH), for up to 24 months, commencing in the 2027 Clinical Year, from 01 February 2027. The position provides an opportunity to a trainee to further develop paediatric skills in the spheres of clinical care, surgical procedures, education, research and supervision under the supervision of consultant paediatric surgeons.
The Trainee’s responsibilities will include providing surgical support to the patients of paediatric Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), trauma and emergency support to the patients in all clinical areas of the hospital including the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, inpatient and outpatient areas and at the Royal Hospital for Women (RHW). The Trainee will have a role in teaching of junior medical officers, nurses and undergraduates.
Positions may be available for up to two years dependent on selection processes and availability of rotations. The rotations may include:
- 12 months Paediatric Unaccredited Surgery (SCH)
- 6 months NICU (RHW) – if taking 2 year position
- 6 months Adult Unaccredited Surgery (Prince of Wales Hospital - POWH) – if taking 2 year position
