SALT Cafe Dural is seeking an experienced Chef to join our kitchen team. Reporting to the Head Chef, you'll take ownership of an assigned kitchen section, contribute to menu development, and help maintain the consistent quality our customers expect across breakfast, lunch, and all-day cafe service.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and cook menu items to SALT Cafe's quality and presentation standards
- Run an assigned kitchen section independently during service
- Assist the Head Chef with developing and costing new menu items and specials
- Monitor food quality and consistency before dishes leave the kitchen
- Order, receive, and rotate stock; manage par levels to minimise wastage
- Maintain food safety records including temperature logs, cleaning schedules, and allergen documentation
- Ensure compliance with NSW Food Authority and workplace health and safety requirements
- Supervise and train kitchen hands and junior staff during shifts
- Step in to run the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment
- Contribute to controlling food cost and reducing waste
- Liaise with front-of-house staff and management to coordinate service
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Trade qualification in commercial cookery (Certificate III/IV or equivalent), or comparable industry experience
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a qualified Chef in a cafe, restaurant, or similar venue
- Working knowledge of food safety standards, HACCP principles, and allergen management
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure during peak service
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior kitchen staff
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Pay: $79,423.00 per year
