About This Way Canteen
This Way Canteen sits in the Museum of Sydney forecourt, serving up a daily selection of sandwiches, salads and pastries — plus coffee and juice — ready to eat in or grab and go. We're known for warm hospitality, quality food done simply, and a team that genuinely loves what they do.
The Role
We're looking for an Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day running of This Way Canteen and help lead a team that takes pride in delivering excellent, unpretentious hospitality. You'll work closely with the leadership team across counter operations, team development, and the guest experience.
This is a role for someone who's already found their feet in hospitality leadership and is ready for the next step.
What You'll Be Doing

Leading service on the floor and setting the standard for the team
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding, and training of counter and kitchen staff
- Managing peak-period flow and pre-service briefings in collaboration with the team
- Overseeing opening and closing procedures
- Handling guest feedback in the moment
- Assisting with rostering, labour management, and daily reporting
- Supporting compliance across food safety and OH&S
- Contributing to a positive team culture that people actually want to be part of
What We're Looking For

Proven experience in a similar front-of-house leadership role
- Strong communication skills and a natural ability to read the room
- Genuine enthusiasm for food, coffee, and hospitality
- Calm under pressure, solutions-focused, and consistent
- Comfortable managing high-volume grab-and-go periods alongside seated service
- Current RSA certificate
