The Opportunity
The Project Officer will be responsible and accountable to manage and support the safe, high quality and on time delivery of fibre projects on behalf of Fibre Engineering Services (FES). Working in a fast paced, multi stakeholder environment, the role partners closely with Project Managers, Team Leader, internal and external stakeholders to ensure fibre engineering business deliverables and KPI are met.
This includes turnkey delivery of fibre projects, in addition to planning work, coordinating resources and logistics, maintaining impeccable project data and governance, and keeping everyone informed from initiation to delivery.
As directed by your team leader, you will be required to drive construction readiness (permits, designs, site access), track delivery against schedule and budget, manage risks and issues, uphold Safety, Quality and Environmental standards, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and local authority requirements.
What you’ll be doing day-to-day
- Support and own end to end project delivery of fibre projects (OSP/ISP), from initiation and detailed design through build, test, handover and project closure and documentation and record finalization.
- Project delivery governance and fibre construction delivery frameworks, maintaining accurate lifecycle documentation (initiation, variations, change control, close out) and supporting continuous improvement across fibre build workflows with alignment to FES fibre construction methodology and technical standards.
- Coordinate contractors and vendors (civil, haul, splice/test) and direct field activities, resolving technical and design queries and access/permit constraints to keep builds moving.
- Ensure WHSEQ requirements, ensure compliance with fibre engineering standards, contracts, utility codes and regulatory obligations to protect people and network integrity.
- Coordinate all construction permits and regulatory approvals with LGAs, utilities, carriers and property owners, ensuring compliance with the Telco Act, local regulations, environmental controls and Vocus construction standards.
- Manage internal and external stakeholder communications.
- Identify and track construction risks, issues and WHSE concerns, support mitigation planning, escalating as required, and ensuring contractors comply with SWMS, traffic management and environmental obligations.
- Maintain accurate construction data for project status, cost and milestone reports and contributing to dashboards and high level forecasts.
- Ensure to meet KPI and SLAs for this role
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned to meet business objectives and organization strategy.
What you’ll bring to this role
- Organization and time management: Expert in prioritizing work, meeting deadlines, and maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Planning and delivery: Expert in scheduling, prioritization and coordinating multiple projects, with a strong focus on detail and on-time delivery.
- Industry guidelines, regulations and organizational policies: Proficient in understanding industry guidelines, local regulations, and interpreting and applying organizational policies.
- Procurement and vendor coordination: Proficient in tracking materials, coordinating suppliers, and monitoring costs and variances.
- Stakeholder communication: Proficient in clear, professional written and verbal communication, with a customer-centric approach and confidence engaging diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Analytical and problem-solving: Proficient in interpreting guidelines and legislation, developing practical mitigation plans, and maintaining strong process and documentation discipline.
- MS Office and reporting: Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, with reporting and dashboard capability; Power BI experience is desirable.
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Engineering or a related discipline preferred
- Project management certifications (PMP, PRINCE2, Agile) is desirable.
- Previous exposure to telecommunications fibre deployment and/or civil construction highly valued.
- General understanding of the Telco Act, LGA/utility interfaces and permitting; ability to interpret and apply organizational policies and standards (desirable).
