Be Challenged and Imagine with us
At the University of Newcastle, Student Living is more than accommodation—it's a community where students can thrive, connect and succeed. We're looking for a compassionate, organised and proactive ResLife Standards Officer to play a key role in supporting wellbeing, maintaining community standards, and ensuring consistent, fair, and policy‑aligned responses to resident matters.
As one of three ResLife Standards Officers, you will be the first point of contact for residents who need support and guidance with living on campus. Every day is different as you provide advice, triage resident concerns, coordinate support, and help create an inclusive and welcoming environment where students can flourish.
If you're passionate about supporting young people, enjoy building relationships, and can confidently balance empathy with policy and process, we'd love to hear from you.
The Role
What you'll be doing
You'll be at the heart of the Student Living community, providing high-quality administrative and operational support while helping residents navigate challenges throughout their university journey. Your work will include:

Acting as the first point of contact for resident wellbeing concerns, enquiries and community matters.

Listening, assessing and triaging resident issues, providing support or referrals where appropriate and escalating high-risk cases as required
-
Building positive relationships with residents, student leaders and University support services.
-
Managing confidential records and case documentation using University systems (e.g., StarRez).
-
Applying University policies, procedures and professional judgement to ensure fair, consistent and timely outcomes.
-
Coordinating meetings, responding to enquiries and providing advice on available support services.
-
Working collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams on initiatives supporting resident wellbeing, including programs for under 18 residents, international students and community engagement activities.
-
Supporting educational and community-building initiatives that enhance the student living experience.
About you
You'll be someone who enjoys helping others while remaining organised, calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
You'll bring:
-
A relevant qualification or equivalent experience in administration, community services, or a related field
-
Demonstrated experience supporting young people, including assessing needs and making appropriate referrals
-
Proven ability to manage complex or sensitive situations, applying a trauma-informed, and person-centred approach
-
Excellent administrative and organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
-
A genuine commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
-
Empathy, sound judgement and the ability to build trust with people from diverse backgrounds. The ability to assess risk, apply policy and procedure, and make appropriate decisions.
-
