A key aspect of the role of educational leader is to create an inspirational vision for children's learning and curriculum and work collaboratively across the setting. Create a clearly articulated vision for learning that can motivate and connect educators to work toward shared goals for children and their learning.
An educational leader should:
- Have knowledge of theories of learning and development;
- Be someone who has an interest in reading widely and sharing information with other educators in a variety of accessible formats;
- Have knowledge of curriculum approaches and the strengths and weaknesses of each approach in particular settings or with particular children and access current research about curriculum;
- Have a desire to guide others in reflecting on their practice knowledge of individual children and learning styles so that approaches can be differentiated to meet complex needs of children from a range of backgrounds and abilities; and
- Possess personal qualities and a willingness to listen as well as coach, mentor and reflect alongside their team.
General Responsibilities
- Work as a part of the Educating team;
- Promote positive working relationship with colleagues, parents, children, the Director and the public;
- To establish a standard of excellence in Early Childhood, care and education;
- Enhance each child's right to play and acknowledge the value of play in early childhood development;
- To actively participate and contribute to the implementation of the National Quality Standards within the Children's Centre;
- Sound knowledge of the National Quality Standards, the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010 and the Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011;
- Sound knowledge of the NQF approved educational frameworks (insert as appropriate)
- Leading the education and care of children;
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with both children and adults;
- Interpersonal leadership skills to enable the assistance and support of families in times of need/crisis;
- Proficiency in English both written and oral;
- A genuine desire and a commitment to progressing the whole service and individuals’ practices to benefit children;
- Contribute positively as a leader;
- To lead, use initiative and demonstrate good interpersonal skills;
- Computer skills - Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher;
- To ensure total confidentiality is maintained at all times;
- Ensure they have a sound understanding of expectations outlined in this document to enable work performance to be executed according to our servicestandards; and
- Undertake other duties requested by the Director.
