The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres that provide a range of services for children, young people and their families, adults, older people and their carers. Our services range from health promotion, prevention and early detection through to assessment, treatment and continuing care. Our staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non-government agencies and other organisations to provide care across our centres, in people’s homes, other community venues as well as virtual care (telehealth).
Are you passionate about supporting people impacted by trauma and looking to further develop your specialist therapeutic skills? This is a unique opportunity to join a highly supportive tertiary trauma counselling service dedicated to delivering high-quality, trauma-informed care to individuals affected by sexual assault and other forms of violence, abuse and neglect.
As a Sexual Assault Trauma Counsellor, you will provide specialist therapeutic and case management services to adults and children who have experienced sexual assault, as well as individuals presenting with broader Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) concerns. The role encompasses crisis intervention, ongoing counselling, triage, comprehensive assessment, advocacy, and case management. You will also contribute to training delivery, community development initiatives, and participate in a 24/7 crisis counselling roster.
This role is ideally suited to clinicians seeking to build expertise in trauma-focused practice within a specialised service. You will be supported by a collaborative and experienced team committed to professional growth and excellence in care. Extensive internal and external clinical supervision, peer support, and cultural supervision are provided, along with ongoing opportunities for professional development and advanced skill-building.
The Sexual Assault Service operates within the Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) framework, which provides leadership in policy and service delivery for children, young people, and adults impacted by violence, abuse and neglect. Working within this framework, you will play a vital role in supporting recovery, promoting safety, and improving outcomes for vulnerable members of our community.
