2 Year Fixed Term Contract
Hybrid opportunity | Central CBD Location
Recognised by WORK180 as an employer of choice
V/Line’s purpose is to connect Victorians through safe, reliable, and accessible transport. We believe in giving all Victorians opportunities through travel and transport – connecting them to jobs, education, family and friends, services, tourism and trade.
V/Line is experiencing significant growth and we’re delivering more services, more trains, cheaper fares, and huge projects. With more than 3700 weekly train and coach services, an expansive freight network and unprecedented rail investment, millions of Victorians depend on us to deliver. You could be one of our 3100 committed team members who are up to the challenge.
About the role
This is a rare opportunity to step into a critical technical leadership role within a high-performing Rail Systems Modelling team. Sitting between senior leadership and analysts, you will blend hands-on modelling expertise with coaching and mentorship, guiding the development of complex rail system models that directly influence strategic service planning and major infrastructure initiatives.
Working within a nationally recognised program, you’ll contribute to shaping the future of rail services by delivering robust, data-driven insights and supporting key decision-making across government and industry stakeholders. This role offers the opportunity to see projects through from analysis to implementation and real-world impact, rather than moving from engagement to engagement.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Leading the development and assurance of complex RailSys models to support current and future timetable planning
Acting as a technical coach and mentor to modelling analysts, uplifting team capability
Providing strategic operational analysis and insights to inform major service and infrastructure initiatives
Engaging with senior stakeholders (e.g. DTP, MTM, project groups) to deliver integrated modelling outcomes
Producing high-quality reports and presentations to support executive and governance forums
This is a great opportunity for someone who is commercially astute, enjoys working collaboratively, values stakeholder engagement, and is passionate about making a meaningful impact through strategic procurement.
About You
You are a technically strong modeller who thrives on solving complex problems and is ready to step into a leadership and influence role. You may come from a consulting environment, government, transport, infrastructure or similarly complex industry, and are motivated by the opportunity to see your work delivered and realised in practice.
You will bring:
Proven experience delivering complex modelling or analytical projects in consulting, transport, infrastructure or government environments
Strong capability with specialist modelling or data analysis tools (RailSys or similar highly regarded)
Experience leading, coaching or mentoring analysts or technical specialists
Ability to translate complex data into clear insights and recommendations for decision-makers
Experience working in stakeholder-rich, complex or politically sensitive environments
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to structure and analyse ambiguous challenges
If your skills or experience don’t exactly match our listed requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and believe in the potential for growth and development.
