Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Canning Vale
Reports to: Plant Manager
Salary: $120,000 + Super
Role Purpose
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing all maintenance activities across the Canning Vale site, including the MRF (Materials Recovery Facility), FOGO processing operations, Green Waste areas, and general site infrastructure.
This role is accountable for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant and equipment through effective leadership, planning, and execution of maintenance activities. The position will drive maintenance strategies, oversee contractor performance, manage maintenance systems (MEX), and support continuous improvement initiatives to optimise plant performance and asset life.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Leadership & Team Management
· Lead and supervise the site maintenance team, including fitters, electricians, and support roles
· Allocate daily and weekly work priorities to ensure efficient execution of maintenance tasks
· Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to develop team capability
· Monitor performance, productivity, and quality of work delivered
· Promote a strong safety culture and high-performance team environment
2. Maintenance Strategy & Planning
· Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance strategies
· Plan and coordinate maintenance activities to minimise downtime and disruption to operations
· Lead shutdown planning and execution for major maintenance works
· Identify opportunities to improve asset reliability, availability, and performance
· Work closely with operations to align maintenance priorities with production targets
3. Plant & Site Maintenance Oversight
· Oversee all maintenance activities across:
· MRF: conveyors, balers, screens, sorting equipment, and mechanical systems
· FOGO: processing equipment, shredders, conveyors, aeration systems
· Green Waste: Mobile equipment, and associated infrastructure
· General Site: buildings, lighting, drainage, utilities, roads, and civil works
· Ensure plant integrity, reliability, and operational continuity across all areas.
4. Maintenance Systems (MEX) & Data Management
· Own and manage the site maintenance system (MEX)
· Ensure all work orders, maintenance activities, and asset records are accurately recorded
· Drive discipline in system usage, reporting, and data integrity
· Analyse maintenance data to identify trends, improve planning, and optimise performance
· Support the development of maintenance reporting and KPIs
5. Safety & Compliance
· Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with WHS legislation and site requirements
· Lead risk assessments, safe work procedures, and permit systems
· Ensure compliance with plant standards, isolation procedures, and safe work practices
· Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
· Maintain a safe and compliant working environment across all maintenance activities
6. Contractor & Supplier Management
· Manage contractors and service providers, including scope, supervision, and quality assurance
· Ensure contractors meet site safety, compliance, and operational requirements
· Liaise with suppliers for parts, equipment, and technical support
· Support procurement activities, including quotations and cost control
7. Financial & Asset Management
· Manage maintenance budgets and control maintenance-related costs
· Monitor expenditure and identify cost-saving opportunities
· Support capital planning and asset lifecycle management
· Assist in development of business cases for plant upgrades and improvements
8. Continuous Improvement & Projects
· Identify and implement maintenance and reliability improvements
· Lead or support capital projects, upgrades, and process improvements
· Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions to prevent recurring failures
· Improve maintenance processes, systems, and standards across the site
Key Skills & Experience
· Strong experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance environments (recycling, processing, or heavy industry preferred)
· Proven experience leading and supervising maintenance teams
· Experience across mechanical, electrical, and automated plant systems
· Strong understanding of maintenance planning and reliability principles
· Experience using CMMS systems (MEX or similar)
· Experience managing contractors, budgets, and maintenance operations
· Strong project management, problem-solving and decision-making capability
Qualifications
· Trade qualification (Electrical) or relevant engineering qualification
· Electrical or Electrical Engineering qualification will be highly regarded
· Additional qualifications in maintenance, reliability, or leadership are advantageous
· Proven experience with SCADA and industrial automation systems (e.g. Honeywell, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Wonderware or similar) is highly desirable
