At ATCO Gas Australia, we deliver essential energy to homes and businesses across Western Australia, operating the state's largest gas distribution network with more than 800,000 connections and 15,000km of pipeline.
We're seeking a Senior Risk & Safety Engineer to lead key risk, compliance and safety assurance activities across our network. This role is responsible for maintaining our Safety Case framework, driving risk management initiatives, and providing expert technical guidance to support safe, compliant and reliable operations. The position also has accountability for Management of Change, Action Management and Emergency Management programs, ensuring robust governance and continuous improvement across critical safety functions.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading the development and ongoing maintenance of Safety Cases, while facilitating Management of Change (MOC) processes including risk assessments, governance, reporting and implementation through to completion.
- Providing expert risk and process safety advice across the business, promoting the consistent application of safety management principles.
- Planning, facilitating and participating in safety studies including Hazard identifications, HAZOPs, Safety Management Studies (SMS), bowtie analyses, etc..
- Driving continuous improvement across safety management systems, technical compliance audit programs and assurance frameworks.
- Overseeing the governance and effectiveness of Action Management processes to ensure timely closure and sustainable risk mitigation outcomes.
- Supporting the organisation's Emergency Management capability through planning, preparedness activities, exercises and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders while mentoring and providing technical guidance to team members.
What you’ll bring
- Degree qualification in Engineering, Science or a related discipline, with experience in gas, energy, utilities, pipelines or other high-hazard industries.
- Strong expertise in Safety Case frameworks, process safety, risk management and Management of Change (MOC), including facilitating risk assessments and safety studies such as HAZOPs.
- Proven ability to build trusted stakeholder relationships, influence outcomes and provide technical guidance across operational and corporate environments.
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with experience in emergency preparedness, response and/or incident management regarded as advantageous.
