About the opportunity
We are seeking experienced and motivated leaders to manage a specialist fisheries and marine officer team within the Serious Offences Unit, delivering investigative and covert operational support to enforce legislation administered by the DPIRD.
In this senior operational role, you will lead and carry out complex covert investigative support services Statewide. You will apply advanced surveillance technologies and investigative methodologies to detect and disrupt serious offences, while building team capability and maintaining operational integrity and governance.
You will also contribute directly to operational outcomes by undertaking covert operative duties as required, supporting sensitive operations.
There is currently one (1) full time permanent position available for immediate filling.
About You
To be successful you will have strong operational knowledge of relevant legislation and the ability to apply legal and ethical frameworks in complex, sensitive environments while maintaining public trust.
We are seeking individuals who can demonstrate:
- the ability to lead and coordinate covert operations, including experience planning and executing sensitive activities
- a high level of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgement, with a proven ability to handle confidential information in a secure and trustworthy manner
- the ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships with stakeholders, including other law enforcement agencies and departmental personnel
- a certificate level qualification in compliance and investigations and/or possession of considerable relevant experience
- A Department of Transport Commercial Maritime qualification – Coxswain Grade 2 (Near Coastal) is required for this role. Applicants who do not currently hold this qualification will be supported by the Department to obtain it upon commencement of employment.
This role calls for experienced Team Leaders who will thrive in a close-knit, diverse operational environment. Applicants should demonstrate leadership capability and possess experience or transferable skills in one or more of the following areas:
- Electronic surveillance
- Physical surveillance
- Human source handling
- Controlled operations

Employment Conditions and Additional Information
DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.
