1. Position Overview
The Industrial Refrigeration Welder & Fabricator is responsible for the fabrication of installing new and existing plant upgrade , welding installation, and repair of industrial refrigeration components, piping systems, pressure vessels, and structural frames. This role ensures all fabrication and welding work meets industry standards, engineering drawings, safety requirements, and customer specifications. The role supports workshop and onsite installation teams to deliver high‑quality refrigeration systems for commercial and industrial clients.
2. Key Responsibilities
Fabrication & Welding
- Perform high‑quality welding using TIG, MIG, and stick welding processes on materials including stainless steel, carbon steel, and copper-nickel.
- Fabricate pipe support brackets, install refrigeration pipework, pressure vessels, evaporators, condensers, frames, and structural assemblies.
- Bend, cut, thread, and prepare pipes for ammonia, CO₂, glycol, and other refrigeration systems.
- Welding of Sched 10/ 40 Stainless steel pipe, Carbon steel, Stainless steel tube and Copper tube
- Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings, P&IDs, and fabrication sketches. Also be able to measure and draft on site drawings
- Conduct pressure testing, leak testing, and inspections of completed welds and assemblies.
Installation & Assembly
- Assist with onsite installation of industrial refrigeration systems, skid packages, pipe racks, and associated equipment.
- Fit and assemble components such as valves, controls, pumps, compressors, and heat exchangers.
- Perform modifications and repairs to existing refrigeration systems as required.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all welding and fabrication work complies with relevant Australian Standards (e.g., AS 4041, AS/NZS 1554, AS/NZS 5149).
- Follow all WHS policies, safe work procedures, and permit‑to‑work requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organised workshop and uphold strict safety standards during onsite work.
Quality Assurance
- Conduct visual inspections and nondestructive testing where applicable (e.g., dye penetrant inspections).
- Maintain accurate records of weld procedures, material usage, and completed tasks.
- Ensure fabrication quality aligns with engineering tolerances and internal QA processes.
Tools & Equipment
- Safely operate workshop machinery such as saws, grinders, pipe benders, guillotines, and welding equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and checks on welding machines and tools.
3. Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Trade qualification in Fabrication, Welding, Metal Engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience in industrial or commercial refrigeration fabrication or pressure piping.
- Strong skills in TIG and MIG welding, including stainless steel and pressure pipe welding.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and P&IDs.
- Understanding of industrial refrigeration systems (e.g., ammonia, CO₂, glycol).
- Current driver’s licence.
- High awareness of safety in industrial environments.
Desirable
- Pressure welding certifications (AS 1796 or equivalent).
- Confined Space, Working at Heights, EWP, or Forklift licence.
- Experience with skid fabrication and modular plant construction.
- Previous experience in industrial ammonia systems.

- Workshop-based with regular onsite installation and project work.

Pay: $40.40 – $55.00 per hour
