About the role
The Clinical Perfusionist provides advanced clinical perfusion services within the specialist cardiac surgery team, supporting safe and effective cardiopulmonary care for patients undergoing complex cardiac procedures. The role also contributes to the coordination, quality and ongoing development of the Perfusion Service in line with organisational standards and ANZCP professional requirements.
RMH is a major tertiary health service providing specialist care for patients requiring complex cardiac surgery. Joining our Cardiac Surgery service provides the opportunity to work across a broad and evolving clinical program, with opportunities to further develop your skills in complex adult cardiac surgery, advanced extracorporeal support, clinical governance, education and supervision, service development and new technologies .
You will contribute to equipment and consumable management, quality improvement, education of trainee perfusionists and service coordination. The role also participates in a 24/7 on-call roster and may undertake delegated operational responsibilities, including rostering, workforce planning and stakeholder liaison. During periods of leave, the position may act in the Perfusion Manager role to support continuity of leadership, service delivery and clinical governance.

Key Accountabilities
Provide cardiopulmonary bypass and perfusion support for elective and urgent cardiac surgical procedures.
Provide advanced extracorporeal support, including ECMO, VADs and IABP, within your experience and scope of practice.
Support the safe management of perfusion equipment, consumables and clinical processes.
Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, service development and the introduction of new technologies.
Support the education and development of trainee and less experienced perfusionists.
Participate in urgent after-hours perfusion service coverage, as required.
About You
We are looking for a Clinical Perfusionist who brings strong clinical skills, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to working within a specialist cardiac surgery team.
You will bring:
Appropriate qualifications and current professional accreditation to practise as a Clinical Perfusionist in Australia.
Demonstrated experience in cardiopulmonary bypass and associated perfusion techniques.
Strong clinical judgement and commitment to patient safety and high-quality care.
Ability to work effectively in complex, time-critical clinical environments.
Strong communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
Knowledge of perfusion equipment, consumables and clinical technologies.
Commitment to clinical governance, quality improvement and ongoing professional development.
Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call roster and contribute positively to team and service development.
For Grade 3 appointment, you will also demonstrate advanced perfusion capability, including ECMO, VADs and IABP, as well as leadership, supervision or operational experience.
Experience with minimally invasive perfusion techniques will be highly regarded.
