Primary objective
As part of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Research support Libraries provide a specialised information service
and advice to research, development, and extension staff across Agriculture, Fisheries, and Biosecurity, and their industry
partners. The role is responsible for current awareness alerts, original cataloguing, acquisitions, departmental publications
aspects, web content, and database administration. The position is responsible for the daily operations of the Berrimah
Library service and is supervised by the DAF Manager, Research and Information Projects at the Arid Zone Research Institute
(AZRI) in Alice Springs.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage the daily operations and services of the Berrimah Farm Library and supervise AZRI Library staff and operations
in the absence of the Manager, Research and Information Projects.
2. Maintain the library collection through acquisitions, budget oversight, running stocktakes of items on loan and remotely
managing the core physical collection located at AZRI.
3. Administer and deliver a prompt library service to support research and extension services that meet the needs of DAF
staff and external clients by providing advice and access to key digital resources, databases, intranet pages, document
delivery and a current awareness service.
4. Capture, preserve, and provide access to departmental publications and relevant information.
5. Provide advice on ISBN’s, copyright, publication templates and fulfilling legal deposit requirements.
6. Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies and alternative mediums to improve library services.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A relevant qualification recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
2. Advanced skills in working online, including database management, troubleshooting, and use of Microsoft Office.
3. Strong knowledge of library and information service procedures, including reference services, document delivery,
publication distribution, acquisitions, cataloguing, and support for remote clients.
4. Demonstrated ability to assess a wide range of client information needs and to design and implement effective strategies
and frameworks to meet them.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of
stakeholders.
6. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, delegate tasks, and meet
deadlines.
7. Knowledge of NTG procurement processes and systems or the ability to acquire this knowledge quickly.
Desirable
1. Sound understanding of Northern Territory primary industry sector.
2. Experience delivering specialised information and publication services to clients working in the Primary Industry sector.
3. Experience in original cataloguing, metadata creation, and contributing records to the National Database (Trove Partners
Catalogue).
4. Experience managing databases with IP-based access.
5. Current NT driver’s license.
