Tell me about this role:
Amentum are seeking experienced Systems Engineering, Capability Development, Logistics, Facilities and Defence Acquisition professionals to support Defence Project AIR 6002 Future Lead-In Fighter System (FLIFS).
AIR 6002 will deliver a Future Lead-In Fighter System inclusive of aircraft, simulators, facilities, ground support equipment, training materials and contracted services, replacing the current Introductory Fighter Course capability and preparing future combat aircrew for conversion onto front-line fighter aircraft.
We are seeking multiple specialist positions supporting the Air Warfare Systems Program Office (AWSPO) and Air Force Headquarters (AFHQ). Successful candidates will work closely with Defence stakeholders, subject matter experts and industry partners to develop capability requirements, systems engineering artefacts and acquisition documentation that will inform a future strategic capability for the Australian Defence Force.
These opportunities may be based in RAAF Base Williamtown (preferred) or Russell Offices, Canberra, depending on role requirements and candidate suitability.
What will I be doing day to day?
Depending on your area of expertise, responsibilities may include:
- Developing high-quality capability documentation, Function and Performance Specifications (FPS), Capability Development Documents (CDD) and supporting artefacts
- Supporting the development of logistics, software, maintenance, systems engineering and facilities requirements
- Managing and maintaining systems engineering databases and associated project information
- Drafting ASDEFCON Data Item Descriptions (DIDs) and acquisition documentation
- Engaging with Defence stakeholders, operators, delivery agencies and industry partners
- Participating in commercial activities including tender evaluations and vendor reviews
- Supporting committees, boards and governance processes through written and verbal reporting
- Identifying, assessing and mitigating capability risks across complex project activities
- Applying Defence strategic guidance, policy and acquisition frameworks to capability development activities
- Collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to deliver project outcomes
- Monitoring and reporting project progress against key capability milestones
- Supporting the development of facilities, logistics, software, maintenance and training solutions for the future capability

- Capability Development
- Defence Acquisition and CASG environments
- Facilities Planning and Infrastructure Delivery
- Software Engineering or Software Requirements Development
- Maintenance Engineering
- Aerospace or Aviation Acquisition Programs
You are a strong communicator who can engage confidently with a broad range of stakeholders, develop high-quality documentation and apply analytical thinking to complex capability challenges. You are comfortable working within multidisciplinary project teams and contributing to significant Defence acquisition and capability development activities.
What sort of skills do I need?
- Experience within Defence capability development, acquisition or sustainment environments
- Excellent written communication and technical documentation skills
- Experience developing requirements, specifications, engineering artefacts or acquisition documentation
- Ability to present information and recommendations to senior stakeholders
- Experience working with systems engineering methodologies, databases or requirements management tools
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering, logistics, project management or a related discipline highly regarded
- Aerospace, aviation or military capability experience desirable
- Australian Citizenship and active NV1 Security Clearance (minimum requirement)
