Location: Villawood NSW — office-based (this is not a hybrid or remote role)
Salary: $70,000–$90,000 + super, depending on experience
Eligibility: Applicants must have full working rights in Australia
About the role
Pestrol is one of Australia's leading online retailers in pest control, gardening, home and outdoor solutions, running an extremely large product catalogue. This is a technical, detail-driven role: you are the final quality gate between a product listing and the customer, responsible for making every listing accurate, compliant, and visible across Google and AI-generated search.
What you'll do
- Audit and optimise listings for accuracy, completeness and quality before they go live — you are the final quality gate.
- Diagnose why a listing underperforms — search-intent mismatch, weak titles/meta, thin or missing attributes, keyword cannibalisation, poor taxonomy placement — and fix it.
- Write and validate Product structured data (JSON-LD schema): name, brand, GTIN/MPN, price, availability, aggregateRating — and resolve rich-result eligibility issues.
- Manage product feed quality: diagnose and fix Google Merchant Center disapprovals and missing or invalid attributes.
- Identify and resolve duplicate-content and canonicalisation issues across product variants and category pages.
- Verify factual accuracy across every element. Titles, descriptions, specs, images and pack/quantity details must all agree with each other and with supplier data.
- Enforce regulatory compliance on registered products (e.g. APVMA-registered pest control lines) — no unsubstantiated or off-label claims.
- Optimise for both traditional SEO and AI/LLM visibility (GEO): structured data, search-intent-aligned titles and metadata, and content structured to be cited in AI-generated answers.
- Maintain product attributes, filters, specifications and category structure so faceted navigation and on-site search work correctly.
- QA digital assets — confirm every image matches the product, the variant and the quantity.
- Identify and resolve deficiencies in supplier-provided data independently.
Essential requirements
- 5+ years in e-commerce product content, merchandising or catalogue management at scale.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and fix SEO problems in live listings — not just describe SEO in theory.
- Working knowledge of on-page and technical SEO: search intent, title/meta optimisation, structured data/schema markup, canonicalisation, taxonomy and faceted navigation.
- Hands-on WooCommerce / WordPress experience.
- Forensic attention to detail. You consistently catch the errors other people miss.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability; able to work independently.
Technical depth (you will be assessed on these at interview)
You should be able to confidently demonstrate:
- Reading and writing Product schema (JSON-LD) and validating it with the Rich Results Test.
- Diagnosing crawl, indexation and coverage issues in Google Search Console.
- Using a site crawler to audit titles, meta, duplicate content and broken structures across a large catalogue.
- Managing a product feed in Google Merchant Center (Meta catalogue a plus): attribute requirements, GTIN/MPN, and common causes of disapproval.
- Conducting keyword and competitor research with a recognised tool (Ahrefs, SEMrush or similar) and translating it into specific listing changes.
- Explaining how structured data and content formatting influence visibility in AI-generated search.
Highly regarded
- Experience in pest control, gardening, hardware, agricultural or other regulated/technical product categories.
- Familiarity with PIM/ERP systems.
- Experience optimising for AI/LLM search visibility (AI Overviews, GEO).
- Understanding of conversion optimisation and the customer journey.
Shortlisted candidates will complete a practical listing-review assessment as part of the interview.
