Primary objective
To provide a high level of administrative and secretarial support to the Senior Director and Darwin region principals.
Context statement
Education Darwin administratively supports 28 Darwin region schools and principals. All divisions within the department are
responsible for providing support, strategic and operational advice to assist the organisation to improve its performance and
deliver quality education services across the Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level executive administrative and secretarial support to the senior director
2. Prepare, review and process correspondence, maintain records using TRM, initiating follow-up action to ensure deadlines
are met
3. Research and prepare high level confidential and sensitive briefings, submissions and reports
4. Liaise effectively and discreetly with all levels off staff within the department, and with external stakeholders
5. Build and sustain collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders including the Chief Executive, senior
departmental staff members, school principals and other government agencies and external stakeholders.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated successful experience working for a senior executive including the provision of high-level communication
and correspondence
2. Demonstrated ability to maintain effective networks, internally and externally at all levels
3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of government and ministerial protocols
4. Proven capability to operate effectively in a politically sensitive environment while maintaining high standards of
professionalism, ethics, departmental values and accountability
5. Extensive knowledge in computer skills, demonstrated experience of the administrative processes such as credit card
management, travel arrangements and document security
6. Ability to implement robust monitoring and evaluation systems to identify areas for continuing improvement
Desirable
1. Demonstrated knowledge and strategic directions and objectives of the Department of Education and Northern Territory
Government

The successful applicant will be required to adhere to and model the NTPS Code of Conduct, the Education Act, Financial
Management Act, Public Sector Employment Management Act and other relevant legislation with the utmost integrity. The
successful applicant will also hold specific delegations under the abovementioned Acts and will therefore be required to
understand and follow these to maintain accountability.
The successful applicant will be required to hold a current working with children clearance and undergo a criminal history
check.
