Strategic Officer - Waste and Environment - Darwin
We are seeking a Strategic Officer - Waste and Environment to lead the delivery of essential waste, recycling and environmental services across East Arnhem Regional Council. This role sits within the Council Services team and focuses on project coordination, systems improvement, workforce capability, reporting, operational planning and service development, while ensuring continuity of critical waste functions when required.
What you'll do:
- Support the Regional Manager Waste and Environment in the planning, coordination and delivery of strategic waste and environmental initiatives across Council communities.
- Coordinate waste, recycling, environmental and infrastructure projects from planning through to implementation and reporting.
- Develop and refine operational systems and reporting tools while analysing key performance data to support planning, decisions and funding.
- Coordinate contractors, service providers and project activities, ensuring actions arising from inspections, audits and reviews are completed
- Coordinate daily operational activities and develop training resources to build staff capability in waste and environmental operations.
- Comply with all Health and Safety Policies and Legislation in the performance of all duties and responsibilities.
- Undertake other duties, consistent with skills and experience, as directed by the Regional Manager - Waste and Environment.
What we're looking for:
- Demonstrated experience in project coordination, strategic support, business improvement or a related field.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team, with experience developing systems, procedures and service improvements.
- Well‑developed communication skills and experience preparing reports, supported by advanced Microsoft Office and data management capabilities.
- Current C Class Driver Licence and willingness to travel to remote communities by light aircraft and/or 4WD.

- A competitive salary $88,036.88 - $93,398.34 per year, excluding super), with annual reviews under the Enterprise Agreement
