About the role
With the recent award of the Defence Clothing Stores (DCS) contract, we are excited to have an open opportunity for a Systems Engineer to ensure the integrity, compliance, and performance of Defence clothing and personal equipment delivered under the contract.
The role operates within a complex environment spanning product design, supply chain, and in-service support, ensuring all items meet Commonwealth contractual requirements, Defence standards, and operational needs.
This role is a Permanent Full-Time position offering hybrid working based from VIC Barracks (Southbank)
Other responsibilities include:
- Develop Safety Case Reports and conduct risk assessments across material safety, ergonomics, and operational hazards

Identify, document, mitigate, and manage safety risks in line with Defence frameworks

Plan and manage user trials, technical evaluations, wear trials, and field testing with Defence stakeholders

Assess product performance against specifications and recommend acceptance, design improvements, or supplier actions

Lead engineering investigations into failures, defects, complaints, NCRs, and operational incidents

Perform root‑cause analysis and manage corrective and preventive actions across design and supply chain

Manage engineering changes, assess impacts on safety, performance, and cost, and control new materials or designs

Oversee technical certification, compliance verification, test evidence, and product acceptance

Chair configuration control, maintain approved baselines, and conduct technical and supplier configuration audits

Maintain engineering data integrity in D‑ERP/RODUM and provide clear reporting to Defence, program leaders, and governance forums
About you
To be successful in your application, you will be a chartered professional Engineer with demonstrated experience in governance, systems engineering, or technical assurance roles.
You will also possess:

Experience working within Defence, government, or highly regulated environments (e.g. Defence, aerospace, rail, or public safety)

Experience with commercial clothing, textiles, PPE, or personal equipment systems (Ideal)

Demonstrated ability to translate operational requirements into system improvements and outcomes

Strong stakeholder engagement and problem-solving capability Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
In this contract, you will be required to obtain and a Defence Security Clearance and be an Australian Citizen.
