Every day, millions of Australians connect, work, stream, and stay in touch on the Optus network. When it works seamlessly, it's easy to take for granted. But behind it is a team making thousands of decisions every day - decisions that keep people, businesses and communities connected.
Right now, Optus is passionate about getting the fundamentals right - simplifying how we work, lifting standards, and building a more reliable, resilient experience for our customers. It's not about surface-level change. It's about how we make decisions, how we work together, and how we deliver.
The Senior Director of OSS Cloud and Automation will lead Optus’s OSS cloud, automation, and network insights strategy, driving the delivery of advanced observability and customer experience capabilities for the Network Operations Centre while guiding the transformation to an AI-led operating model. The role combines network engineering, software development, and enterprise architecture leadership, overseeing a high-performing team that delivers end-to-end automation, cloud expertise, and actionable network intelligence across the Network Enablement group.
What You’ll Do
Define and execute the OSS Cloud & Automation strategy, including OSS cloud transformation, automation roadmaps across the OSS tooling landscape and development of Operations centric dashboards and visualisation tools.
Own commercial optimisation, managed service insourcing, and OSS Automation support for evolving network technologies such as 5G and cloud-native architectures.
Lead and develop a high-performing Automation Engineering function, establishing team structures, capability frameworks, technical standards, and a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
Own enterprise OSS automation architecture and governance, setting reference architectures, integration standards, automation frameworks, CI/CD practices, Infrastructure-as-Code disciplines, and governance policies to ensure scalable and resilient solutions.
Drive OSS platform integration and ecosystem maturity, governing integrations across OSS, BSS, network elements, and operational platforms while ensuring high-quality data flows, API standards, and end-to-end automation capabilities.
Accelerate DevOps transformation and delivery excellence, embedding DevOps culture, automated testing, release management, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment practices that improve delivery velocity while managing operational risk.
Ensure operational excellence, security, and compliance, maintaining platform reliability, resilience, service performance, data integrity, security governance, risk management, and continuous improvement across the automation estate.
Influence senior stakeholders and business outcomes, building executive support for automation initiatives, articulating business value, securing investment, managing vendor partnerships, and driving organisational alignment around Optus’s automation and AI-led transformation agenda.
