The Clinical Nurse Consultant provides expert clinical advice to patients/clients, carers and other health care professionals with complex healthcare needs within ISLHD. The Clinical Nurse Consultant is a clinical expert who, through leadership, facilitates excellence in research based clinical practice, education, research and professional leadership. The Clinical Nurse Consultant models the CORE (Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment) values of the organisation.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant develops, facilitates implementation and evaluates care management plans for patients/clients diagnosed with specific cancers with a focus of care coordination on patients identified with complex needs. The Clinical Nurse Consultant will also develop education and training programs and participate in collaborative research with other health professionals.
The CNC will provide expert consultation and advice to health care workers for patients with special or complex needs through their continuum of care until discharge, acknowledging that patients may require follow-up or contact after discharge, ensuring support is provided to the patient from diagnosis through treatment, to discharge or terminal care.

Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital is the main referral hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical, mental health and orthopaedic services. The hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on ventilated, high dependency and coronary patients, Children’s Ward and Maternity Unit, as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre.
The hospital is currently undergoing a significant $440M redevelopment that will redefine how healthcare is delivered within the Region. Once complete in 2026, the new seven-storey Acute Services Building and refurbishments on the current hospital site will bring a focus on career development. allowing you to grow your career, acquire new skills and advance professionally as the hospital continues to develop. Within this redevelopment, a purpose-designed Mental Health Inpatient Unit will open for the first time at Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital, providing local consumers with access to comprehensive inpatient mental health care closer to home. Applicable vaccination requirements for a Category A role.- Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Registered nurse with a current licence to practice from the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Current NSW Driver's License (if required by service).
- Minimum five years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field of Respiratory or Cancer related discipline. Post graduate qualifications either- Acute Care Nursing (with an interest in Respiratory) and /or Cancer Nursing.
This is a temporarily funded position until 30 June 2029 with the possibility of an extension subject to funding.
