Marketing Director – Digital, Growth & Brand
We are looking for an unusually capable marketer to lead a broad marketing function covering SEO, AI, websites, content, lead generation, paid advertising, PR, social media, video, podcasts and physical marketing.
We care far more about what you know, how you think and what you can do than how many years you have worked in marketing.
You may already be an experienced marketer. Or you may be someone who has spent years teaching yourself SEO, AI, digital marketing, websites and emerging technology because you genuinely find these subjects fascinating.
Either background can work.
What matters is that you are highly capable, commercially minded, technically curious and able to turn ideas into action.
The Role
You will report to the General Manager and lead a small multidisciplinary team covering web development, content, website architecture, AI, video, product administration and advertising.
You will set priorities and provide strategic direction, but this is also a very hands-on role.
One day you might be analysing keyword data or investigating an SEO issue. The next you could be testing an AI tool, building a lead-generation campaign, reviewing website architecture, writing content, conducting PR outreach, hosting a podcast or helping prepare a trade show.
We expect you to continually find and test new marketing ideas.
That could include:
- SEO, AEO and generative search
- AI tools and automation
- Lead generation and data prospecting
- Instantly and outbound email
- LinkedIn marketing
- Google Ads
- Content and social media
- PR and media outreach
- Podcasting and video
- Website optimisation
- Trade shows and offline marketing
- New platforms, tools and advertising opportunities
We operate approximately 10 websites, including a major WordPress website, so you should be comfortable with the technical side of digital marketing.
You should understand, or be capable of quickly understanding, areas such as 301 redirects, 404 errors, indexing, internal linking, website architecture, technical SEO, analytics and platforms such as SEMrush.
What We Actually Care About
We are not looking for someone simply because they have held a senior marketing title.
We are interested in people who:
- Follow developments in AI, SEO, search and digital marketing because they genuinely enjoy the subject
- Teach themselves new platforms and technologies
- Can research unfamiliar problems and work things out
- Are comfortable with data, spreadsheets and detailed analysis
- Can write and communicate clearly
- Have strong commercial judgement
- Generate ideas rather than waiting to be given them
- Are comfortable experimenting and occasionally getting things wrong
- Can challenge other people and hold them accountable
- Are confident enough to lead a team
- Are comfortable both in front of and behind a camera
- Get things finished
Personal projects, experimentation, independent learning, side projects and demonstrated knowledge can be just as relevant to us as formal employment experience.
If you have taught yourself how search engines work, built websites, experimented heavily with AI, created campaigns, grown an audience, analysed data or spent hundreds of hours learning these subjects, we want to hear about it.
This Role Will Not Suit Everyone
There is a lot of research, analysis and detailed work involved.
You may need to dig through large amounts of data, rewrite content yourself, investigate why traffic has fallen or spend several hours understanding a technical problem.
You will also need to push projects through and hold people to deadlines.
This is not a role for someone who only wants to develop high-level marketing strategies and then hand everything else to an agency.
We want someone who is curious enough to investigate, confident enough to make decisions and practical enough to execute.
If marketing, AI, search, technology and finding new ways to grow businesses are subjects you naturally spend your own time learning about, you may be exactly the type of person we are looking for.
