THE LONG WALK
The Long Walk is a national not-for-profit organisation that inspires and empowers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. Established by AFL legend Michael Long, The Long Walk promotes Indigenous leadership, culture, education, health, and employment outcomes through community engagement, cultural awareness programs, and advocacy. The organisation works with schools, workplaces, government agencies, and community groups to foster greater understanding, respect, and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia.

About the role
The Marngrook Kids Program Assistant is a casual role which will support the delivery of The Long Walk and EFC’s Marngrook Kids program, helping create fun, inclusive and culturally safe learning experiences for early learning and primary school-aged children.
Working alongside lead facilitators, you will assist with setting up and delivering movement-based games, storytelling and activities that promote physical activity, confidence, connection and respect. You will help encourage participation, support children of different abilities and confidence levels, and contribute to a positive session environment where every child feels safe, included and excited to have a go. You will communicate clearly and confidently with children using age-appropriate language and support the delivery of creative and engaging activities that encourage participation and learning through play. The role will also support the delivery of other The Long Walk programs, from time to time.

You are warm, energetic and patient, with a genuine enjoyment of working with young children. You bring a positive, encouraging approach and can communicate clearly in a way that helps children feel confident, included and supported.
You are reliable, adaptable and comfortable working in busy, high-energy environments. You remain calm and positive when responding to different behaviours, group dynamics and changing circumstances. You are organised, safety-conscious and committed to helping maintain a safe physical and emotional environment for all participants. You bring a flexible, team-first approach and are open to learning, feedback and continuous improvement, while understanding the importance of safety, professionalism and respectful behaviour when working with children.
You are culturally respectful and responsive, with a strong commitment to valuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, stories and perspectives. You demonstrate cultural sensitivity and actively contribute to creating welcoming and inclusive spaces where children from all backgrounds feel respected, safe and capable.
This is an identified role, and applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
You will also need a current driver’s licence and current Working with Children Check.
