Job Description
Influence leaders. Shape safety culture. Work for purpose.
Make your mark in a role where safety is about more than compliance.
Join Deaf Connect in a newly created Workplace Health and Safety Business Partner role and play a key role in building and shaping our WHS approach for the future. You’ll help create safe, healthy and inclusive workplaces where our people can thrive, partnering with leaders across the organisation, building safety capability and turn WHS strategy into practical actions that make a genuine difference.
Working across multiple states and diverse service environments, this is an opportunity for an experienced WHS professional to influence safety at an organisational level while contributing to meaningful outcomes for the Deaf community.
We offer flexible work options and a hybrid model, with the opportunity to be based in either our Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne office locations.
About the role:
Reporting to the Head of Quality, Safety and Compliance, you’ll be a trusted partner to leaders across Deaf Connect, helping them confidently navigate safety, risk and their WHS responsibilities.
As a newly created role, you’ll lead the ongoing development of our WHS approach, champion physical and psychological safety, and use insights, education and influence to create a proactive safety culture.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
Partnering with and coaching leaders to strengthen WHS capability, accountability and safety culture
Develop, shape and continuously improve our WHS strategy, frameworks, systems and governance, creating a strong and sustainable foundation for safety across multiple jurisdictions
Leading our approach to risk, incidents, investigations, injury prevention and emerging physical and psychosocial hazards
Using safety data and insights to identify trends, improve performance and support Executive and Board decision-making
Developing practical initiatives, tools and learning that make safety easier to understand, apply and embed in everyday work
Acting as the subject matter expert on workers’ compensation requirements and processes across all jurisdictions in which Deaf Connect operates.
About you:
You’re an experienced WHS professional who knows that great safety outcomes come from strong relationships, practical solutions and bringing people with you. You enjoy influencing leaders, building safety capability and creating practical safety approaches that make a real difference. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys building, influencing and creating lasting impact, rather than simply maintaining established safety systems.
In your application, let us know if you have these key skills and experience:
Experience in a WHS Business Partner, Senior WHS Advisor or similar role within a complex organisation
A relevant WHS qualification or equivalent experience, together with strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and Codes of Practice
Experience influencing and coaching leaders to strengthen safety capability and culture
Strong experience across risk management, incident investigations, audits and WHS systems
Experience supporting workers’ compensation and return-to-work processes
Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and analytical skills, with a practical and collaborative approach
Also let us know if you have these other great skills:
Experience in the disability, community services or not-for-profit sector
Auslan skills, Deaf community experience, or a willingness to learn Auslan
