Eligibility Dispute Review Specialist
This role sits within the Workers Compensation Reform Team and conducts and determines liability reviews on disputed psychological injury claims attributed to bullying, harassment and excessive work demands.

About the Role
- Use your specialist knowledge to deliver accurate and timely reviews, in accordance with section 280AE of the Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998, as amended by the Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Act 2025.
- Apply your understanding of industrial relations law and principles to determine whether evidenced allegations of bullying and harassment, or excessive work demands meet new thresholds for workers compensation cover.
- Produce complete, accurate and accessible documentation of determinations and associated reasons for determination.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of customer and stakeholder interactions.
- Act with a high degree of independence and support your team and other internal stakeholders to achieve positive customer outcomes.
- Understand and meet regulatory and relevant administrative and privacy law requirements when managing reviews.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- This is a fixed term contract for a period of up to 12 months.

Duties
The rules about what types of psychological injury are covered by workers compensation are changing. Icare is supporting that change by establishing a specialist team with skills in industrial relations to assess and determine disputes according to the new rules. As an Eligibility Dispute Review Specialist you will:
- Use your specialist knowledge to deliver accurate and timely reviews, in accordance with section 280AE of the Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998, as amended by the Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Act 2025.
- Apply your understanding of industrial relations definitions to determine whether bullying and harassment, or excessive work demands relevant conduct meet those definitions.
- Produce complete, accurate and accessible documentation of determinations and associated reasons for determination.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of customer and stakeholder interactions.
- Support your team and other internal stakeholders to achieve positive customer outcomes.
- Understand and meet regulatory and relevant administrative and privacy law requirements when managing reviews.
- Help icare to monitor and assess how effectively the new rules are being applied and to develop training materials and advice to help improve practice.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Pre-Employment Checks
- 4+ years experience in NSW or FairWork industrial law matters
- An understanding of workers compensation legislation.
- An understanding of NSW industrial relations laws pertaining to bullying and harassment.
- Passionate about providing quality service and outcomes and an aptitude for problem-solving.
Desirable
- Admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of NSW
- A current practising certificate as a solicitor
- Experience conducting or advising on insurance claim reviews.
