The role:
We meet clients in the community and in their homes to help them achieve their goals and live their best quality of life.
As a support worker, the work is mostly independent or with one other worker. The main responsibilities are:
- Meet participants in an agreed area, such as their homes or in a park, and help provide emotional support where needed.
- Providing practical support such as attending appointments or helping them search for new housing.
- Getting outside for walks and adventures, physical activity of all kinds such as gym or exercise classes.
- Being creative in your problem solving. Coming up with new ideas for social outings, and finding what can be agreed upon.
- Social role modeling when out in public, being a friend and helping them feel confident in social situations
- Assisting with gardening or cleaning at home to help them in their independence
We work with you to find how many hours you want and which clients/areas you prefer to work with. Our staff usually work 10-30 hours per week in a stable roster once they have found preferred clients, but you are able to work more or less as suits. We are looking for people who can build a relationship with a participant over time.
We understand the nature of casual work and try to offset its disadvantages by paying above the award rate, offering cancellation payment if a shift is canceled within 48 hours before by the client, and finding clients that will suit your work preferences.
You will be paid at the rate of $45.54 per hour on weekdays, $62.21 for Saturday shifts, $76.62 for Sunday shifts, and $85.28 for Public Holidays. These are inclusive of the applicable casual loading."
