About the Role
The Senior Data Scientist is a senior technical specialist responsible for advancing CSQ’s data science, forecasting and analytical capability. The role specialises in the design and development of predictive models, forecasting methodologies, analytical frameworks and scalable data solutions that enable evidence-based decision making across workforce planning, industry intelligence, economic analysis and business operations.
Working within CSQ’s modern Azure and Databricks environment, the position combines advanced statistical modelling, data engineering, cloud analytics and applied research to transform complex data into strategic insight. The role plays a key part in shaping CSQ’s future analytical capability through the development of innovative models, methodologies and data assets that support Queensland’s construction industry.
About you
You are a highly capable data scientist with a passion for solving complex problems through advanced analytics, modelling and innovation. You enjoy moving beyond reporting to develop predictive and scenario-based solutions that help organisations understand what is likely to happen, why it matters and what actions should be taken.
You possess a strong foundation in statistics, forecasting, economics or quantitative science, combined with practical experience building scalable analytical solutions within modern cloud environments. You are equally comfortable working with large and complex datasets, developing sophisticated models and communicating technical findings to senior stakeholders.

Day-to-day you will enjoy
- Designing, developing and maintaining statistical, econometric, forecasting and predictive models that support workforce planning, economic analysis and industry intelligence.
- Building scalable analytical solutions and data products within Azure, Databricks and cloud-based data environments.
- Developing and optimising data pipelines, transformation processes and analytical workflows using SQL, Python and modern data engineering practices.
- Applying advanced statistical techniques, machine learning methods and scenario modelling approaches to uncover trends, risks and opportunities.
- Leading the development of innovative methodologies and analytical frameworks that enhance CSQ’s forecasting and modelling capabilities.
- Collaborating with researchers, analysts and business stakeholders to translate strategic questions into analytical solutions.
- Providing technical advice on modelling approaches, data science methods and emerging analytical technologies.
- Strengthening data governance, metadata, quality assurance, reproducibility and version control practices across analytical assets.
Your Skills and Experience
- A Minimum of three (3) years’ experience and an undergraduate qualification in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Analytics or another quantitative discipline; OR
- A minimum of one (1) years’ experience and a postgraduate qualification in a quantitative discipline such as Data Science, Analytics, Economics or another quantitative discipline.
- Advanced programming skills in SQL and Python.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing forecasting, predictive, statistical or machine learning models.
- Experience working with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake, cloud data platforms or equivalent modern analytics environments.
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis, modelling techniques, hypothesis testing and quantitative research methodologies.
- Experience developing scalable data pipelines, automated workflows and analytical data products.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to technical and non-technical audience
- Experience working with construction industry intelligence datasets is desirable.
