The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Engagement & Governance Officer to provide a critical role within Gambling, Liquor & Tobacco.
About the business unit
The Gambling, Liquor & Tobacco business unit supports the regulation of gambling, liquor and tobacco in Victoria, to minimise the harms these products can cause and contribute positively to the Victorian economy. It is responsible for:
- delivering and further developing the Victorian Government's strategic response to gambling, liquor, and tobacco issues
- developing and implementing the government's policy on major gambling licensing processes
- delivering a research and evaluation program to inform responses to gambling harm in Victoria.
It advises the Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation and is the primary government point of reference for industry, community and government on liquor and gambling issues.
The Gambling Harm Evidence & Response branch helps to reduce gambling harm by:
- building the evidence base through a targeted research agenda and associated funding streams
- sharing the body of gambling knowledge to inform responses to gambling harm
- evaluating gambling harm programs, services and policy responses to ensure continual improvement
- coordinating the Whole-of-Victorian-Government Gambling Harm Prevention and Response Model.
About the role
Working closely with the Senior Finance & Governance Officer, the Engagement & Governance Officer will manage day-to-day engagement with key bodies and stakeholders related, but not limited, to the Gambling Harm Prevention & Response Model, as well as supporting governance and reporting requirements.
Established in 2024, the model aims to prevent gambling harm in the Victorian community through the coordinated delivery of services and programs, behaviour change campaigns, policy and research across the Victorian Government. The model is supported by a Gambling Harm Inter-Departmental Committee, which provides strategic oversight of the model on behalf of the Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation and the (Gambling) Lived Experience Advisory Committee, which provides independent advice on issues affecting Victorians who experience gambling harm based on lived experience.
The Engagement & Governance Officer will act as Secretariat for these, and other bodies where required, supporting the development of agendas, meeting papers, minutes, Ministerial briefings and other documentation, liaising with members outside of meetings and coordinating the logistics of meetings and other engagements. The Engagement & Governance Officer will also act as Secretariat for certain other advisory bodies that support gambling harm minimisation, which may exist within and outside the model from time-to-time.
The Engagement & Governance Officer will be required to work collaboratively with stakeholders across government and the business unit, as well as community representatives. They will also undertake a range of research and analysis tasks to contribute to the provision of advice related to gambling harm.
Some of your duties will include:
- acting as Secretariat for the Gambling Harm Inter-Departmental Committee and its working groups, the (Gambling) Lived Experience Advisory Committee, the Community Advisory Group and/or other related governance and advisory bodies that may exist from time to time
- coordinating the development of agendas, meeting papers, minutes and other documentation, inclu ding to support the effective operation of the model and brief the Minister and senior executives on the meetings and operation of the model
- coordinating the logistics and leading the administration of relevant governance and advisory meetings.
