What you'll be doing
X-linked hypophosphataemic rickets (XLH) is a severe genetic bone disorder associated with life-long and multisystem complications. Standard medical treatment of oral phosphate and calcitriol leads to an incomplete healing of rickets, with persistent limb bowing, pain and physical disability. Burosumab, an FGF-23 antibody, provides the opportunity for improved clinical outcomes and quality of life.
The APEG Bone and Mineral Working Group, in collaboration with academic and industry partners, has been undertaking research into the prevalence of XLH and burden of disease amongst children, and has independently developed paediatric burosumab treatment guidelines.
The primary purpose of this position is to work with the APEG Bone and Mineral Working Group to develop and publish manuscripts reporting XLH prevalence and burden of disease and describing the burosumab protocol used in many Australian paediatric centres.
In addition to performing an extensive literature review related to XLH management, the successful candidate will work closely with members of the APEG Bone and Mineral Working Group to ensure progress in the writing of the manuscripts meets strict timelines. The position if based within the Institute of Endocrinology & Diabetes at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. The position responsibilities will include accurate and complete data entry into the APEG Registry REDCap database, statistical analysis, write up, publication and presentation of the findings of this project.
