Primary objective
Provide high-quality statutory and non-statutory welfare services to children, young people and families by supervising and
managing less complex cases. The role delivers accountable, evidence-based and culturally appropriate family and youth support
services in accordance with departmental policy, practice frameworks, Family Responsibility Agreements (FRAs) and statutory
obligations under the Care and Protection of Children Act and Youth Justice Act.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Deliver culturally safe services aligned with the Aboriginal Cultural Security Framework.
2. Manage and supervise intensive family support cases under guidance.
3. Provide strengths-based, evidence-informed support to vulnerable children, young people and families.
4. Conduct assessments and contribute to Family Responsibility Agreements and SF comprehensive case plans.
5. Monitor risk, maintain accurate case records, prepare required documentation, and keep leadership informed.
6. Build referral pathways and foster strong relationships to support holistic service responses.
7. Engage young people in proactive targeted meaningful activities aimed at reducing youth risk of offending
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated understanding of the Care and Protection of Children Act, Youth Justice Act, Domestic and Family Violence Act, or
the ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge
2. A demonstrated commitment to cultural safety and providing culturally responsive services to young people and families
including knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures and demonstrated
understanding of the historical and current factors that impact on Aboriginal people.
3. Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills and an ability to provide individualised case management to improve
outcomes for vulnerable families.
4. Excellent written and verbal skills, highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships and
engage a diverse stakeholder group.
5. Demonstrated ability to apply the provisions of relevant legislation in working with children, families and individuals on
voluntary and statutory bases.
6. Demonstrated organisation skills, with the ability to managing high volume workloads with tight deadlines in a dynamic and
time critical team environment, the ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team setting.
7. A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team setting, including fostering a positive team culture and
ensuring all staff uphold a commitment to ethical conduct, respect and accountability, while remaining resilient in a challenging
environment.
Desirable
1. Certificate IV in Youth Work or Certificate IV in Community Services or another relevant field.
Further information
1. The recommended applicant will be required to hold a current NT Drivers licence, current Working with Children Clearance
notice and undergo a criminal history check.
2. The Family and Youth Support Team will deliver 24/7 and 365 days per year coverage. The successful applicant will be required
to participate in evening, weekend and public holiday shifts, with appropriate shift penalties attracted.
