The opportunity
Join the Victorian Clinical Genetics Services (VCGS), a leader in genetic testing, diagnostics and translational research. We're looking for a Senior Laboratory Technician to join our Sequencing Platform and help deliver high-quality genomic testing services that support patients, clinicians and researchers across Australia and New Zealand.
Working as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to a wide range of sequencing services while coordinating weekend laboratory operations and supporting the delivery of high-quality diagnostic and research outcomes.
This full-time position works a Wednesday to Sunday roster, giving you the opportunity to earn applicable weekend penalty rates while contributing to world-leading genomics.
What you’ll do
Perform molecular laboratory techniques including NGS library preparation, PCR, qPCR, Sanger sequencing and quality control
Operate and maintain leading sequencing technologies, including Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms
Coordinate weekend laboratory operations, supporting workflow distribution and ensuring continuity of service delivery
Process clinical and research samples while maintaining quality, accuracy and compliance with ISO 15189 standards
Work closely with clinicians, scientists, bioinformaticians and laboratory teams to deliver exceptional genomic services
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, quality activities and research projects
What you’ll bring
Availability to work a Wednesday to Sunday roster, including regular weekend shifts (weekend penalty rates apply)
Qualifications in Biological Sciences or related discipline
Experience with NGS library preparation and sequencing using Illumina and/or Oxford Nanopore platforms
Experience working within a NATA-accredited diagnostic laboratory
Strong knowledge of molecular genetic techniques and laboratory quality systems
Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills
