This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of veterinarians responsible for the investigation, surveillance, and control of animal diseases of state and national significance. Working alongside experienced field, policy, and laboratory veterinarians, you will contribute to maintaining and enhancing Western Australia’s (WA's) livestock health status, supporting export market access, continuity, and growth.
As part of a dedicated biosecurity team, you will help protect WA's livestock industries from the increasing threat of animal diseases and emerging biosecurity risks. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the sustainability and resilience of the state’s agricultural sector.
Field veterinarians play a critical role in animal disease surveillance and emergency animal disease preparedness, which underpin WA's livestock market access and trade reputation. In this role, you will provide scientifically based advice on livestock disease diagnosis, prevention, and control, while supporting rapid and effective responses to emergency animal disease incidents in accordance with state policies and procedures.
This position is for the regional town of Moora, Western Australia.

We are looking for an individual with great interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with industry and Department stakeholders, as the role will require you to engage with a wide range of industry, government, and community groups in the regions of WA. We are after a passionate veterinarian with a drive to make a difference to WA’s state livestock industry.
Please note that the following special requirements are required:
- A degree in Veterinary Science (obtained from an Australian university or recognised equivalent), and current recognised registration (or able to obtain prior to commencement) with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Western Australia – registration must be maintained whilst employed by the department.
- A current and valid Western Australian C (car) class driver's licence, or equivalent is required.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information
DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.
Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.
You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment. If not currently held, this must be acquired prior to appointment at applicant’s expense.
