Primary objective
This leadership position will provide high level advice, professional leadership and management support for the Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander Health Worker and Practitioner professional workforce across NT Health to enable them to work to their full scope of
practice, meeting compliance, and building our leaders to achieve their career aspirations.
Context statement
This position requires an Aboriginal Health Practitioner having extensive experience in clinical practice, education and leadership, including
the ability to provide advice and support to build a clinically and culturally safe responsive health service delivery across the NT, and to
work with local and national key stakeholders in regard to professional development opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Health Workers and Practitioners. This role acts as a vital link between healthcare workers and the governance and support of digital
health systems, particularly delivered components of the Acacia electronic health record system, to ensure high-quality, safe, patient-
centred care.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Drive the implementation of national strategies contextualised to the NT Health education and training frameworks to build a strong,
sustainable, and culturally safe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker and Practitioner workforce.
2. In collaboration with the senior professional leads, provide guidance and support in delivering key initiatives, including professional
practice, mentoring, and upskilling across the NT.
3. Influence contemporary practice within defined practice areas through the application of expert education and clinical knowledge,
skills, and attributes.
4. Contribute to relevant clinical governance systems through evaluation and development of skills and competency in professional
practice supervision and support the Office of the Chief Aboriginal Health Practitioner in strategic planning and evaluation to address
workforce needs.
5. Promote and follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current registration with AHPRA as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner with no conditions.
2. Minimum AQF level 7 as per NTPS Aboriginal Health Practitioner 2025-2029 Enterprise Agreement or be able to demonstrate
sufficient sustained experience and practice to satisfy the CEO they should be appointed to that level.
3. Demonstrated experience providing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care practice as an advanced practitioner
across diverse settings.
4. Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate education programs to meet organisational needs and/or
address new and emerging developments.
5. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to maximise productive working relationships with internal and external
stakeholders and facilitate a positive learning environment across the practice area.
6. Demonstrated highly developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that
influence healthcare and delivery of education programs, particularly in remote settings.
