The Australian Retail Council (ARC) is seeking an Economic Analyst to support the development of high-quality economic research, analysis and market intelligence that strengthens ARC’s policy and advocacy work across Australia’s retail sector.
About the Role:
Working closely with the Chief Policy Officer & Chief Economist, you will analyse economic and industry trends, prepare market insights and contribute to evidence-based policy development across issues affecting one of Australia’s largest industries. Your work will help inform government submissions, research publications, member briefings, media commentary and advocacy campaigns.
The role combines applied economics with public policy, providing opportunities for economic modelling, analyse macroeconomic and retail market trends, design industry surveys, evaluate policy impacts and deliver original research for Australia’s retail industry.
You will also engage with senior stakeholders across government, regulators, industry and academia while contributing to ARC’s growing reputation as a trusted source of economic insight.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an economic data analyst or economist seeking a role that combines rigorous analysis with real-world policy influence and industry engagement.
About You:
You are an economic data analyst or economist with strong analytical capability who enjoys transforming complex data into practical insights that influence decision-making.
You will demonstrate:
- At least 3–5 years’ experience in economics, economic policy, research, consulting, government or a related analytical role
- Strong quantitative analysis and research capability, including experience interpreting economic and industry data
- Experience preparing high-quality reports, presentations or policy advice for diverse audiences
- Knowledge of Australia’s macroeconomic environment and public policy processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex economic concepts to non-technical audiences
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build productive working relationships across government, industry and research organisations
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines
Experience using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Canva or other data visualisation software will be highly regarded.
A tertiary qualification in economics or a closely related discipline is required.
