The Haematology Department at The Children's Hospital at Westmead are seeking a Permanent 0.4 FTE (16 hours per week) Staff Specialist to join their team.
What you'll be doing
-
Direct Clinical/Diagnostic Services
-
Provide high-quality diagnostic services for children and adolescents with a whole range of haematological disorders.

Provide consultative service for paediatric haematological disorders.
-
Participate in delivering quality clinical care for patients attending The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Ensure adherence to the Hospital's policy on Ethics of Consultation.

Emphasise an interdisciplinary approach in providing pathology and clinical services.

Participate in the on-call roster
-
Ensure thorough documentation of all aspects of patient care, including consultations, treatment plans and pathology, to support good communication.

Investigate complaints and promptly report the results of the investigations.

Service Development and Improvement
-
Ensure that services are of the highest quality and excellence in the care of sick children.

Promote, coordinate and participate in quality activities within the Haematology Department.

Participate and facilitate continuous improvement projects through research and audits.

Participate in the development of key performance indicators that provide outcome measures.

Education, Professional Development and Research

Participate in teaching activities for medical, students, nursing and allied health.

Initiates own professional development activities and promote similar activities of others.

Contribute and participate in high-quality research.
Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.

Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Paediatric Haematologist, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.

Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Paediatric Haematology at the role delineation of the service.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
-
Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
-
Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
-
Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond onsite within a reasonable time.
