Honeysuckle Garden is seeking an experienced, practical and customer-focused Store Manager to lead our Mosman Garden Centre.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone with experience in a retail nursery, garden centre, horticultural business or another quality retail or customer-service environment.
A horticultural qualification and previous nursery experience would be highly regarded. However, we also welcome applications from capable retail managers with strong leadership skills and a genuine interest in plants and gardening.
The position may be structured as either full-time or part-time, depending on the experience and availability of the successful applicant.
About the Role
As Store Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, presentation and performance of the Mosman Garden Centre.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, supporting and developing the garden-centre team
- Organising daily priorities and delegating responsibilities
- Preparing rosters and managing staff hours appropriately
- Maintaining excellent customer-service standards
- Assisting with customer enquiries, plant recommendations and service recovery
- Ensuring plants and products are healthy, correctly priced and attractively displayed
- Maintaining high standards of merchandising and overall store presentation
- Overseeing stock receiving, labelling, processing and quality control
- Monitoring expenditure, wages and store performance
- Supporting purchasing, stock management and supplier relationships
- Managing point-of-sale procedures, cash handling, opening and closing
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment
- Ensuring workplace procedures and safety requirements are followed
- Identifying opportunities to improve sales, customer experience and store operations
- Working collaboratively with our Turramurra Garden Centre and Dural production nursery
This is an active management role. The successful applicant will work alongside the team on the nursery floor and remain involved in customer service, plant care, merchandising and the practical daily operation of the business.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- An experienced retail manager, supervisor or senior customer-service professional
- A confident and supportive team leader
- Highly reliable, organised and accountable
- Friendly, professional and comfortable assisting a broad range of customers
- Commercially aware, with sound judgement around staffing, stock and expenditure
- Able to maintain consistently high presentation and service standards
- Practical and willing to assist wherever required
- Interested in plants, gardening and the horticultural industry
- Comfortable undertaking active work and working outdoors in changing weather
- Confident using point-of-sale and general computer systems
- Able to communicate clearly with staff, customers, suppliers and senior management
Experience and Qualifications
The following would be highly regarded:
- Previous garden-centre or retail-nursery experience
- Retail management or supervisory experience
- Practical horticultural knowledge
- A recognised horticultural qualification
- Experience managing rosters, stock, merchandising and store performance
- A current forklift licence
Applicants who do not currently hold a forklift licence must be willing to complete forklift training if required.
Hours and Availability
- The role is available on a full-time or part-time basis
- Normal rostered hours are generally between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm
- Honeysuckle Garden operates 363 days per year
- Regular weekend work and some public-holiday availability are required
- Occasional work or training at other Honeysuckle Garden locations may be required
