The Engagement & Safety: Family Liaison Worker will be a key first point of contact for families accessing the Hub, supporting parents, children and caregivers to feel safe, welcomed and connected to the right supports.
About the role
Working as part of the Engagement Hub team, you will combine family-focused engagement with a strong focus on safety, trauma-informed practice and creating a respectful environment for everyone who accesses our services.
This role will work closely with our Family Program team and broader support services to strengthen how we welcome and support families experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
What you will do
You will:
- Support the creation of a safe, family-friendly and inclusive Hub environment
- Engage with families, children and individuals accessing services with empathy, dignity and respect
- Provide information, support and referrals to appropriate services
- Use trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches when engaging with people experiencing complex challenges
- Support safety within the Hub, including de-escalation, incident response and managing challenging situations
- Monitor and maintain a safe environment for clients, visitors and staff
- Assist with the inclusion of families and children within the Hub model
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure coordinated responses for families
- Complete accurate client records, data entry and reporting requirements
About you
You will be someone who:
- Has experience working in community services, homelessness, family support or a similar environment
- Builds strong relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences
- Understands trauma-informed practice and the impact of homelessness, disadvantage, mental health, AOD and other challenges
- Has experience engaging with families and children (highly desirable)
- Can remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Has strong boundaries, resilience and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Values teamwork and contributes positively to a supportive workplace culture
You will also have:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and client management systems
- Strong attention to detail and record keeping skills
- An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, cultural safety and the impacts of homelessness
