As a Staff Software Engineer – AI Innovation, you'll play a critical role in designing, building and scaling intelligent solutions that combine modern software engineering with emerging AI technologies. You'll help create experiences that assist customers, augment colleague capability and unlock new ways of engaging with the bank.

You'll join our Customer Channels, Data & AI organisation, where teams are building:

Working closely with engineers, architects, data specialists, product managers and business stakeholders, you'll help shape how Business Banking adopts and scales AI-enabled experiences safely and responsibly.
- Design, build and scale AI-powered products, services and platform capabilities.
- Build AI agents, copilots and intelligent customer experiences that deliver measurable customer and colleague outcomes.
- Develop production-grade AI applications leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic AI patterns.
- Drive architecture and engineering decisions across AI-enabled customer and colleague experiences.
- Develop reusable frameworks, services and engineering patterns that accelerate AI adoption across the domain.
- Improve AI reliability through evaluation frameworks, guardrails, observability and monitoring.
- Partner with product, design, engineering and risk teams to implement responsible AI practices.
- Champion modern software engineering practices including automated testing, DevSecOps, CI/CD and operational excellence.
- Mentor engineers and help uplift AI engineering capability across the broader organisation.
- Proven experience designing and delivering complex software solutions within large-scale or distributed environments.
- Strong hands-on software engineering capability and a passion for solving challenging technical problems.
- Experience building cloud-native applications, APIs, platforms or data-driven services.
- Experience building or integrating AI-enabled products, intelligent applications or LLM-powered services .
- The ability to balance strategic technical thinking with hands-on delivery.
- Experience influencing technical direction, architecture and engineering standards.
- Experience evaluating new technologies and turning prototypes into production-ready solutions.
- A track record of mentoring engineers and uplifting capability across teams.
Experience in customer channels, digital platforms, AI-enabled products or financial services is highly regarded, but not essential. We're looking for exceptional engineers who can learn quickly, apply sound judgement and make an impact across a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
