About the role
We are seeking a full-time Software Engineer to design, develop, integrate and continuously enhance Gala Esports’ core digital platforms and software systems. This is an ongoing operational role supporting the Gala Pal mobile application, its backend services, the internal administration platform, venue integrations and the continued expansion of Gala Esports’ online and offline services.
Key responsibilities
- Consult with management and operational users to analyse business processes, identify system requirements and translate operational needs into software architecture, technical specifications and scalable software solutions.
- Design, develop, modify and maintain the Gala Pal mobile application, including user authentication, member profiles, digital membership cards, café balance top-ups, subscriptions, bonus points, transaction history and customer notifications, together with the APIs, databases and cloud functions that support these features.
- Design, develop and continuously enhance the Gala Pal internal administration platform used to manage users, esports games, squads, matches, casters, Game Buddies applications, café events, gaming equipment configurations, top-ups, branch reporting, application settings and system communications.
- Design and maintain databases, APIs and cloud-based services enabling reliable data exchange and synchronisation between the Gala Pal application, company websites, administration platform, membership systems and venue-management systems.
- Develop and maintain integrations connecting online membership services with physical esports venues, including member accounts, subscription benefits, café balances, top-up transactions, playtime credits and other member entitlements.
- Develop and enhance software modules supporting esports operations, including games, teams and squads, scheduled matches, tournaments, events, casters, event content and related administrative workflows.
- Develop and maintain the Game Buddies service workflow, including provider applications, administrative review, profile management, approval status and integration with the Gala Pal platform.
- Integrate third-party payment services, venue-management software and smart devices, including smart lockers and power bank rental units, with internally developed applications, databases and business processes.
- Design scalable software architecture and data structures supporting multiple esports venues, branch reporting, cross-venue membership functions and the future expansion of the company’s franchise network.
- Write, test, debug and maintain program code; manage cloud deployments and application releases; monitor system performance; and implement defect corrections, security, reliability and scalability improvements.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation covering system architecture, databases, APIs, deployment processes, software specifications and operating procedures.
- Collaborate with the Web Developer, management and operational employees to implement website interfaces, application functions and integrated digital services consistently across online and offline systems.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a closely related field.
- At least one year of relevant professional experience working as a Software Engineer or in a closely related software engineering role.
- Demonstrated experience in software application design, development, testing, debugging, deployment and ongoing maintenance.
- Hands-on experience developing cross-platform mobile applications using Flutter, with working knowledge of native iOS and Android development.
- Proficiency in modern full-stack web development, including Next.js (React) for front-end and Node.js for back-end services.
- Practical experience with backend services, APIs, databases, cloud environments (such as Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services) and third-party system integration.
- Ability to analyse business and operational requirements and convert them into reliable, scalable technical solutions.
Desirable attributes
- Experience developing mobile applications, membership platforms, transaction-based systems or multi-location business systems.
- Experience integrating payment platforms, venue-management systems, smart devices or other third-party services.
- An interest in esports, gaming communities, tournament operations or digital entertainment platforms.
What we offer
- A permanent, full-time position working 38 hours per week.
- A competitive annual salary of $90,000–$110,000 plus superannuation, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
