JOB ROLE: Manager, Consulting (Engagement Manager)
LOCATION: Sydney office - Hybrid working model, attendance in the office is expected at least 3 days a week.
REPORTING TO: Head of Business Development (APAC)
Job Overview
As a CMSPI Engagement Manager, you are responsible for the successful delivery and commercial performance of the client engagement. You will ensure the team delivers the required outputs on time and within budget, with all quality and governance checks completed. Working closely with the Account Leader, you will help achieve the client's strategic objectives, demonstrate measurable value and identify opportunities to deepen the relationship and grow work within current clients and projects. You will also be a key source of feedback for the delivery team and create development opportunities for junior team members.
As an Engagement Manager, you will provide day-to-day leadership across the engagement, acting as a point of escalation for Associates and Senior Associates and taking accountability for the quality of work presented to clients. You will ensure the team has the clarity, resources and support required to deliver accurate, commercially relevant and high-quality outputs that address the client's priorities and create a platform for further value.
Within the role, you are responsible for building, growing and maintaining trusted relationships with the client team and relevant contacts across their supply chain, with the Account Leader retaining overall accountability for the relationship. Supported by the Analytical Lead and Associates, you will take responsibility for the final analysis and recommendations presented to clients, lead subsequent commercial and strategic discussions, support supplier negotiations and help convert identified opportunities into successful outcomes and income.
Responsibilities and Duties
As a key member of the consulting team, your main responsibilities are:
- Commercial focus: Produce premium analysis, recommendations and presentations that clearly demonstrate commercial value, improvements and business impact for clients and internal leaders. Maintain a strong understanding of each client's objectives, actively identify opportunities to extend value within current projects and engagements, and represent the CMSPI brand with authenticity, professionalism and integrity.
- Demonstrate excellent project management skills to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget, while maintaining a clear focus on agreed client outcomes and commercial value. Lead the production of negotiation and tender documentation, where applicable, for suppliers and clients. Take accountability for the accuracy and quality of written documentation, appendices and pricing tables, and support the Account Leader with commercial contracts and service level agreements for CMSPI and the client.
- Produce accurate, client-focused reports through Excel, Power BI, written reports and presentations, with support from the Consulting Team. Translate analysis into clear, actionable recommendations that demonstrate realised and potential value, support client decision-making and create a credible roadmap for further opportunities within the engagement.
- Lead discussions on commercial opportunities and improvements to client arrangements. Understand how recommendations affect the client's wider objectives, the overall relationship across projects and CMSPI's commercial position. Proactively surface opportunities for additional value, follow-on work, renewals and broader use of CMSPI's services, working with the Account Leader to progress these appropriately. Demonstrate tolerance for ambiguity and flex your delivery style to meet different internal and external stakeholder needs.
- Act as a point of escalation for Associates and Senior Associates on project analysis and delivery. Provide detailed, timely feedback through the checking process, support development conversations and ensure project deadlines and quality standards are met. Encourage the team to connect technical outputs to client priorities, commercial outcomes and opportunities for continued impact.
- Complete all required training on projects and internal processes. With support from the Performance Manager and Director, People Performance, proactively progress your individual development plan. Lead training sessions for the wider team covering payments knowledge, commercial awareness, technical skills and analysis best practice.
- Maintain strong knowledge of the markets in which CMSPI operates and our core product offerings, and proactively share this knowledge with junior team members. Apply market and product knowledge to identify client needs, emerging risks and opportunities for growth within existing accounts and projects. Share project learning across the wider business and, where appropriate, lead cross-team initiatives that strengthen understanding of industry changes and their impact on CMSPI and our clients. Support Marketing and Insights with external events.
- Work closely with the PMO Lead to ensure accurate resourcing and coordination of projects, enabling effective delivery, achievement of deadlines and appropriate support for the team. Balance resource decisions with client priorities, quality requirements, project economics and opportunities to grow the engagement sustainably.
- Directly support the sales process by leveraging first-hand client and project experience. Take accountability for contributing to additional revenue through cross-selling, renewals and follow-on projects within current client engagements. Build a clear understanding of the client's wider needs, introduce relevant CMSPI capabilities and support sales calls, meetings and product demonstrations where appropriate.
