We are currently seeking a Full Time Permanent staff member to join our team based at our offices in Sunshine.
The role
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated Youth Development Officer to empower young people and create meaningful opportunities for them to influence their communities.
Working within the Young Communities team and reporting to the Team Leader Young Communities, you will play a key role in designing, delivering and evaluating innovative youth development initiatives that strengthen resilience, promote wellbeing and create opportunities for civic participation and leadership.
You'll work collaboratively with young people, community organisations, schools and internal Council departments to ensure young people's voices are heard and embedded in Council decision-making. This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about community development, youth participation and creating positive outcomes for young people across Brimbank.
We are seeking an experienced and proactive professional who can contribute to:
- Delivering high-quality youth services using strengths-based, evidence-based and community development approaches.
- Designing, coordinating and evaluating innovative programs, projects and events that improve health, wellbeing, resilience and social connection for young people.
- Supporting meaningful youth participation through co-design, leadership development and civic engagement opportunities.
- Building and maintaining strong partnerships with schools, community organisations, government agencies and other stakeholders to improve outcomes for young people.
- Advocating for young people and supporting Council and community partners to engage with them in authentic, youth-friendly and Child Safe ways.
- Researching emerging youth issues and using evidence and data to inform program development and continuous improvement.
The role includes, but is not limited to:
- Community engagement and consultation with young people.
- Designing, delivering and evaluating youth programs and events.
- Facilitating youth participation, leadership and co-design initiatives.
- Building partnerships and collaborative networks across the community.
- Collecting, analysing and reporting on program outcomes and community data.
- Managing project budgets and maintaining accurate records.
- Supporting casual staff, volunteers and tertiary placement students.
- Representing Council through networks, working groups and advocacy opportunities.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Experience working with young people using community development and youth participation approaches.
- A strong understanding of youth engagement, co-design, leadership development and civic participation.
- Excellent project management, planning and organisational skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data and evidence to inform decision making.
- Highly developed communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work independently while managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Experience building productive partnerships across community, government and education sectors.
- Knowledge of the issues affecting young people in Brimbank or similar culturally diverse communities.
- A proactive, collaborative approach and a genuine passion for supporting young people to thrive.
