Note: For the purpose of recruitment, this role has been advertised as Cloud and Platform Operations Lead, however within the organisation the role is known as Coordinator Cloud and Platform Operations.
About the team
This role sits within the Technology and Cyber Defence team which forms part of the Digital and Technology Services department. The team is responsible for cloud platforms, infrastructure, cyber security, workplace technology and digital services that support the organisation’s day-to-day operations.
About the role
As the Coordinator Cloud and Platform Operations, you will oversee the performance, stability and continuous improvement of Council’s cloud and on-premises platform environments.
You’ll also lead a small team of platform engineers and drive a modern, resilient and secure approach to infrastructure operations.
This role blends technical leadership, operational delivery and platform governance. You’l play a key role in shaping the organisation’s cloud maturity, supporting the transition of services to cloud platforms, and ensuring systems are reliable, secure and fit for purpose.
A key part of your impact will be operational excellence, ensuring strong platform performance, proactive management of issues, and continuous improvement across all environments.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Leading cloud and platform operations to ensure performance, availability and resilience of services
- Managing, coaching and developing a small platform operations team
- Overseeing cloud and on-prem infrastructure including compute, storage and core systems
- Driving cloud migration activities and ensuring smooth transition into operational support
- Managing patching, backup and recovery processes aligned to compliance requirements
- Developing platform standards, policies and roadmaps aligned to Council’s technology strategy
- Managing vendors and supporting strong service delivery outcomes
- Participating in a rotating on-call roster when required
About you
You are a collaborative and outcome-focused technology leader with a strong background in cloud and platform operations.
You bring a balance of technical expertise and leadership capability, with a clear focus on delivering secure, reliable and well-governed platform services.
You are comfortable working across complex environments and can translate technical concepts into clear outcomes for stakeholders.
The following is also required:
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, and/or equivalent experience
- Extensive experience leading cloud or platform operations teams in a complex environment
- Strong experience across Azure and/or AWS and hybrid infrastructure environments
- Substantial experience with Microsoft technologies including Intune, Entra, Defender and Purview
- Advanced understanding of cloud security, identity, governance and compliance
- Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder engagement and communication skills
