Overview
Gallagher Bassett is seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Specialist to support our Specialty portfolio within the General Insurance division. In this critical role, you will provide subject matter expertise across complex and sensitive claims, ensuring matters are managed with integrity, empathy and in line with regulatory and scheme requirements.
You will play a key role in driving early and appropriate resolution strategies, partnering closely with icare, legal providers and agencies to deliver fair, defensible and trauma-informed outcomes. This position is central to maintaining technical excellence, minimising risk, and supporting sustainable claims management practices.
How you'll make an impact
On a day to day basis, you will:

Act as the primary technical referral point for complex and sensitive Specialty claims.

Provide expert guidance on liability, quantum, evidentiary requirements and resolution strategies.

Partner closely with icare and legal stakeholders to develop and implement effective claim strategies.

Instruct and manage legal providers, counsel and specialists to progress matters efficiently.

Drive early resolution opportunities including ADR pathways, conferencing and negotiated settlements.

Monitor portfolio trends, risks and emerging issues and provide insights and escalation recommendations.

Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, ensuring trauma-informed and respectful engagement.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance claims processes, consistency and quality.

Support and uplift technical capability within the team through coaching and knowledge sharing.
About You
We are looking for an experienced legal or claims professional with deep expertise in Specialty or complex personal injury matters. You bring a highly empathetic and professional approach, combined with strong technical capability and the ability to influence outcomes across a wide range of stakeholders.

Significant experience managing complex Specialty, personal injury or historical liability claims.

Strong understanding of liability, quantum assessment and evidentiary requirements.

Experience working with government schemes, insurers or large institutional environments.

Demonstrated experience engaging and managing external legal providers.

Strong knowledge of ADR approaches, Model Litigant obligations and trauma-informed practices.

Excellent communication skills with ability to prepare high-quality reports and recommendations.

Proven ability to analyse trends and provide actionable insights.

High level resilience, empathy and professionalism when handling sensitive matters.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
