Primary objective
Provide direct care to clients and demonstrate role modelling to Shift Supervisors and disability support workers to ensure high quality;
consistent daily care and support services to the residents in accordance with their individualised therapeutic care plans, departmental
policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
Context statement
The Forensic Disability Unit (FDU) manages a number of service types for clients with disability who have severe cognitive impairments.
The services provided are designed for clients with a disability who have been found Unfit to Plead under Part IIA of the Criminal Code Act
(1983).
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake statutory responsibility and exercise delegations in accordance with the Disability Services Act, Public Sector employment
and Management Act, and departmental policies and procedures.
2. Implement Interventions intended to reduce the residents risk and increase capacity to enable the resident to personally develop and
acquire skills to step down into a less restrictive care setting.
3. Role model good work practices to the Shift Supervisors through the delivery of services to residents in the group home. Build positive
workplace culture through effectively supervising subordinate staff to ensure the efficient day to day running of treatment and care
setting.
4. Implement appropriate responses when an incident that threatens safety of residents, staff and visitors or damage to the group home
occurs.
5. Contribute to the development, regular review and delivery of individualised therapeutic support plans.
6. Identify issues impacting on the delivery of quality, consistent care and draw these concerns to the attention of Secure Care Group
Home Manager.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Investigate any complaints raised by clients, staff or interested persons and provide comprehensive reports for recommendations or
outcomes.
9. Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department’s records,
information security and privacy policies and requirements.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Recognised ability and significant experience working with Indigenous people with complex disability support needs who demonstrate
behaviours of concern.
2. Considerable management skills and experience in the operation and implementation of plans, protocols and directives, working within
those legislative requirements and utilise sound problem solving skills and initiative.
3. Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised when required and liaise with external stakeholders.
4. Well-developed oral and written skills and an ability to interact effectively with people form diverse cultures.
5. Demonstrated preparation of detailed reports, data, and notation within the area of expertise or responsibility and identify areas of
service improvement.
6. Current prison clearance or the ability to obtain one upon commencement if successful.
7. Hold a current Northern Territory driver’s licence or ability to obtain, and the ability to operate a manual vehicle competently.
Desirable
1. Diploma in Disability Services or Diploma in Leadership and Management or equivalent.
