We are recruiting for an Occupational Therapist who enjoys working with older adults and can provide both therapeutic intervention and practical recommendations relating to home modifications, assistive equipment and everyday function.
You will enjoy a varied community caseload and have opportunities to collaborate with rehabilitation medicine specialists and other allied health practitioners.
About the role
The role can be structured around your experience, clinical interests and availability. It may include a combination of community visits, clinic-based appointments, telehealth, report writing and work from home.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Completing comprehensive functional, cognitive and environmental assessments
- Assessing clients’ ability to safely complete personal care, domestic and community activities
- Assessing and prescribing assistive equipment and mobility-related supports
- Conducting equipment trials and providing education to clients, families and carers
- Completing home safety and accessibility assessments
- Preparing home modification specifications and liaising with builders, suppliers, care managers and other relevant professionals
- Participating in case conferences and collaborating with GPs, rehabilitation medicine specialists, allied health practitioners, care managers and other service providers
- Providing goal-directed occupational therapy in a rehabilitation setting
About you
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who:
- Holds current general registration with AHPRA
- Has relevant occupational therapy experience and is confident working independently in community settings
- Enjoys working with older adults and supporting people to remain safe and independent at home
- Has experience or demonstrated skills in functional assessment and therapeutic intervention
- Has experience with assistive equipment prescription
- Ideally has experience assessing and recommending home modifications, particularly for bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms
- Has strong clinical reasoning, report-writing and communication skills
- Can work collaboratively while managing their own caseload and clinical responsibilities
- Has an interest in or experience with neurological rehabilitation, which would be highly regarded
- Holds a current driver’s licence and has access to a reliable vehicle
- Has Australian working rights and is willing to complete relevant police and worker-screening checks
- Maintains accurate clinical documentation and caseload effectively
This position is best suited to an Occupational Therapist with some relevant clinical experience. Applicants with strong general occupational therapy skills who are interested in developing their aged-care, home-modification or neurological rehabilitation experience are also encouraged to apply.
