Townsville Community Learning Centre (TCLC) - A State Special School is a Prep to Year 12 school located in Mundingburra, Townsville, supporting students with a verified intellectual disability. About the Role:
The State Schools Nursing Service provides clinical support to build the capacity of school staff to safely assist students with health needs to attend and participate in school, enabling them to reach their full potential.
The role includes health assessment, health plan development, delivery of training, and ongoing supervision and support of school staff.
The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to build collaborative relationships with parents, principals, medical teams, school staff, and students.
Although based in Townsville, the position may involve regular travel across North Queensland, including the Mt Isa and Gulf regions, with some periods of travel requiring multiple overnight stays away from home.
Responsibilities:
Provide nursing services that support students with health needs to safely access and participate in education.
Develop, implement and review Individual and Emergency Health Plans.
Deliver health training and clinical advice to school staff on student health support needs.
Collaborate with families, schools, healthcare professionals and external agencies to achieve positive student outcomes.
Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with professional standards, legislation and departmental policies.
Participate in professional development, quality improvement initiatives and professional networks to support best practice nursing services.
