We are looking for a Control Room Officer to play an essential part in the control of the refinery. The primary purpose of the Control Room Officer is to manage the operation of the Refinery to ensure that safety, environmental, costs, operational and production targets are met.

Reporting to the Shift Controller and working in an exciting environment within the Control Room team, you will be:

Continually monitoring process parameters and alarms to ensure stable, efficient operations and act as necessary to ensure process parameters remain within the defined limits

Operate the Refinery to in order to meet the Production plan, utilising the resources available in consultation with the Shift Controller and the Operations Team

Ensure that proactive actions are carried out in the control room and the field to ensure personnel safety, equipment integrity, product quality are always maintained

Plan and conduct operational activities including start-up, monitoring and shut down of equipment according to the documented authorised procedures

Liaise with Shift Controller, Operations and Process Teams regarding operating plans, strategies, process upset information and process parameter set points.
What you’ll bring

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

Experience as a Control Room Operator with the Bayer process within the Alumina industry.

Previous experience in the operation of DCS/Honeywell operating systems
-
Good communication skills with the ability to work constructively across multiple teams and functions to resolve problems.

Demonstrated problem solving skills, technical aptitude and be forthcoming about raising and challenging issues

Where you’ll be working
Located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.
As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.
With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.
