Millstone Patisserie is a café, patisserie, and catering company that serves seasonal-inspired breakfast and lunch, and French-inspired pastries and cakes. Over the past 5 years, Millstone has expanded into corporate and private catering, and we are now searching for a skilled, motivated, and passionate Cook to join our growing team.
We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Chef/Cook to join our kitchen team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a creative, close-knit environment where food is made from scratch, menus change with the seasons, and attention to detail is everything.

Position Type: Part-time
Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Prepare, season, and cook a wide range of dishes, including breakfast, brunch, lunch, pastries, and desserts.
§ Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or professional judgment, using various kitchen and baking equipment.
§ Bake, roast, grill, boil, and steam ingredients to achieve the desired taste, texture, and presentation.
§ Wash, peel, cut, and prepare fruits, vegetables, sauces, and garnishes for dishes and plated items.
§ Portion and plate meals and dishes attractively, ensuring consistent presentation standards.
§ Prepare food to meet special dietary requirements (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free, allergen-aware).
§ Observe and test foods to ensure they are cooked or baked to the correct standard, using tasting, visual inspection, and other methods.
§ Store ingredients and prepared foods in temperature-controlled facilities, ensuring proper stock rotation and freshness.
§ Operate kitchen and baking equipment safely and maintain proper hygiene and food safety practices.
§ Assist with the development of new recipes, seasonal menu items, and daily specials.
§ Monitor food quality, freshness, and consistency during preparation and service.
§ Perform additional duties consistent with Cook’s role to support overall kitchen operations.
Skills and Qualifications
§ Minimum 1-year relevant work experience in a café or restaurant kitchen.
§ Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or Kitchen Management.
§ Strong knowledge of food hygiene, safety, and OH&S standards.
§ Ability to work closely with management and kitchen staff to ensure consistent, high-quality service.
§ Good communication and teamwork skills to support smooth kitchen operations.
§ Strong attention to detail in food preparation, presentation, and portion control.
§ Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Lead, manage, and supervise the kitchen team, ensuring smooth operations and high culinary standards.
§ Plan, develop, and cost seasonal menus, incorporating innovative dishes and catering offerings.
§ Prepare, season, and cook a wide range of dishes, including breakfast, brunch, lunch, pastries, and desserts.
§ Oversee food preparation to meet quality, presentation, and consistency standards.
§ Monitor food safety, hygiene, and OH&S compliance across all kitchen operations.
§ Train, mentor, and guide kitchen staff in cooking techniques, portion control, and presentation standards.
§ Assist in recipe development, seasonal menu creation, and catering menu design.
§ Manage inventory, stock rotation, and supplier orders to ensure cost-effectiveness and reduce waste.
§ Operate kitchen and baking equipment safely and efficiently.
§ Address food preparation or service issues, providing solutions to maintain operational efficiency. Assisting with freezing and preserving foods.
§ Perform additional duties consistent with a Chef’s role to support overall kitchen excellence.
Skills and Qualifications:
§ Minimum 1-year of relevant work experience in a café, patisserie, or restaurant kitchen, including leadership experience.
§ Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or higher qualification in Culinary Arts or Kitchen Management.
§ Strong knowledge of food hygiene, safety, and OH&S standards.
§ Proven ability to manage, mentor, and motivate a kitchen team.
§ Excellent organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment.
§ Creative culinary skills with attention to detail in food preparation, presentation, and portioning.
§ Strong communication and teamwork abilities to ensure effective collaboration with kitchen and front-of-house staff.
§ Ability to maintain high standards under pressure while ensuring consistency and quality across all dishes.
