About the Role
The Hornsby GP Unit is a department of Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital and provides continuous whole-patient care to patients at Hornsby (located at 3-7 Derby Road) and Brooklyn (located within the Brooklyn Community Centre). It has a reputation for excellence in clinical care, Aboriginal health, GP Education , integration and innovation.
The Unit has a strong educational focus and has a close association with both the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, supervising medical students from both medical schools. In addition the GP Unit has JMOs on rotation from the Hospital, and GP Registrars undertaking terms within the Unit, and will occasionally conduct intensive educational assessments of registrars in difficulty.
The GP Unit also hosts the Bungee Bidgel Aboriginal Health clinic, which offers coordinated primary care including health assessments for Aboriginal patients within the Northern Sydney LHD
The Unit is accredited with AGPAL and is fully computerized, using Best Practice software.
Purpose of Position
To provide high quality general practice services at the Hornsby-Brooklyn GP Unit and/or other peripheral sites – as directed
To supervise, teach and mentor junior medical staff and medical students
To provide leadership in service development, service innovation and service quality improvement
To be involved in research and to participate in departmental, hospital and district committees as required
You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement
